It all started with the idea of bouncing soles: functional, air-cushioned shoes for the working man. And in creating practical comfort for the proletariat, the original Dr. Martens 1460 design unwittingly launched a fashion statement for generations of counter culture rebels. Real, down-to-earth people that rejected the flamboyant high fashion of London’s swinging sixties. Back then, to wear a pair of 1460s was to celebrate your working-class roots. Today, the 1460 is a still an empowering symbol of authenticity and rebellious self-expression—like all Docs. This version of the 1460 is dedicated to the goth subculture—an all-black boot in utilitarian pebbled leather. The 1460 is made with our iconic AirWair Bouncing Soles, that are oil-and-fat resistant with good abrasion and slip resistance—and have been since 1960. The boot is Goodyear welted, meaning the upper and sole are sewn together in our heat-sealed z-welt stitch for enhanced comfort. This 1460 comes in Pebble, a full-grain leather with a pigmented finish and an emboss print.
